The LWPOA works with the Alabama Power Company to install "used" Christmas Trees in the Lake for Fish Habitat.
Christmas trees are donated by the City of Carrollton and Carroll County and loaded for transport by their crews. LWPOA members provide their equipment to deliver the trees to a staging site, generally a launch ramp, on the lake. Randolph County Community Workers unload the trees at the staging site.
The Alabama Power Company provides materials to bundle the trees for installation and provides barges and operators for placement in the lake. LWPOA member volunteers assemble the tree bundles, load the trees on the barges, and offload the bundles at the installation site.
Over the 5 years of LWPOA participation, more than 1,000 trees have been placed at 64 different locations on the lake. Fishermen can find GPS coordinates for locations by visiting the Alabama Power Company Shorelines Website. Once on the Alabama Power Website, click on the "Fishing" link that scrolls down the page to where you can click on the "Download (XLS)" button to download a spreadsheet of the GPS coordinates. Or, simply click here to go directly to the R. L. Harris Lake Fish Habitat GPS Locations spreadsheet.
